The towns effected are Marino, Albano, Grottaferrata, Castel Gandolfo, Ariccia, Lanuvio and Frascati, in addition to Ciampino itself.
People have also been told to limit their movements and the use of air conditioning and to wash fruit and vegetables.
The measures do not impact Rome.
Ciampino is home to Rome’s second airport, but the fire did not affect services.
Dioxin levels in the air rose above the legal threshold after the fire, according to monitoring by the region’s environmental agency, Arpa Lazio.
The mayor of Ciampino, Emanuela Colella, said she had been receiving regular updates on the fire and its severity, while the mayor of Rome, Roberto Gualtieri, said that he’d telephoned Colella and discussed activities being undertaken to protect citizens following the fire.
“The extinguishing operations are still ongoing and this morning I called the mayor Emanuela Colella to whom I offered our maximum support,” Gualtieri told reporters.
Checks have also been underway on site in preparation for the investigations, with the Public Prosecutor of the Velletri prosecutor’s office, Giuseppe Travaglini, present, along with the police and carabinieri.
