It was the lowly away side who dominated the match, with 61 per cent of the ball and 19 shots on goal compared to Bari’s nine.
The first half had chances for both sides, but most of them were off target or straight at the keeper.
Leonardo Benedetti had the best chance for the home side as he got his head on the end of a high looping cross by Walid Cheddira but hit the post.
Six minutes after halftime Bari took the lead from a corner thanks to a glancing back-post header from Benedetti.
Cittadella immediately responded with a weak effort from Antonucci that barely troubled Caprile.
With only six minutes remaining Cittadella equalised from a corner of their own.
Caprile and his left back, Mazzotta, got in each other’s way which caused the ball to spill out to Maistrello who slid in and finished into an empty net.
Bari are now six points behind Genoa, who they play in the last game of the season. They’ll need to win all three of their games and hope Genoa lose of their other two if they’re to go up.
Cittadella are 16th and in the relegation playoff zone but are equal on points with Brescia who are 15th.
