Two distinct but equally significant celebrations marked the occasion: an official luncheon held on Tuesday, August 5, attended by over 400 people, and an elegant dinner on Wednesday, August 6, with around 350 guests present. Both events took place in the Colosseo Hall, elegantly set up with great care to welcome friends, former executives and long-time members.
The atmosphere was full of emotion, gratitude and pride for the long journey of Club Marconi, founded in 1958 thanks to the vision and initiative of 239 founding members, six of whom are still alive today.
One of the most touching moments of the evening was dedicated to these six: their official presentation, accompanied by a commemorative photo, was met with a long and heartfelt standing ovation.
As tradition dictates, the symbolic cutting of the club’s birthday cake took place - a simple yet deeply meaningful gesture that moved everyone present. Hosting the evening was Melo Ridolfo, who opened the night solemnly, inviting attendees to listen to the national anthems of Australia and Italy, followed by a minute of silence in memory of members who had passed away in the last 12 months.
This moment of silence preceded a heartfelt speech by President Morris Licata, who warmly thanked all attendees and, in particular, the six founding members present, the financial members, the honorary life members, the former presidents of the club, members of affiliated sports associations, the women’s committee, the entire current board of directors, CEO Matteo Biviano, whose presence and support were described as “fundamental” to the club’s growth in recent years, executive staff, event coordinator Diana Gentile and the marketing department for the extraordinary organisation and attention to detail in the celebrations.
President Licata also thanked the Italian press and radio for the ongoing support the club receives throughout the year, and praised the staff and chefs of Doltone House. The celebrations became even more evocative with the projection of historical images of the club. The old photographs allowed everyone to relive key moments of past decades, bringing back precious memories.
The entertainment for the 67th anniversary matched the importance of the occasion. The main performance was entrusted to the well-established father-and-daughter duo, Tony and Sara Mazell, who captivated the audience with their artistic chemistry and talent.
Accompanying them was an exceptional band: Frank De Bellis on keyboard, Umberto De Bellis and Tony Di Pasquale on guitar and Paolo Del Fiore on drums, delivering a captivating and refined sound.
Also appreciated was the participation of talented singer Ada Cannavò. The diverse, multi-generational audience confirmed that Club Marconi continues to be a cultural, sporting and social landmark for the Italian community and beyond.
In a changing world, the club’s stability and ability to renew itself while keeping its roots alive were celebrated with enthusiasm. With this 67th anniversary, Club Marconi not only marked a milestone but reaffirmed its commitment to the future, with the goal of remaining one of the beating hearts of Italian culture in Australia for generations to come.
