Sergio Corolla and Antonio Sidonio Crestani, both direct witnesses to the club’s establishment in 1958, returned together to the place that began as a shared dream of 239 pioneers and has since grown into one of the most important Italian clubs in Australia.
The two founders were honoured at a convivial lunch held in the restaurant area of the Bossley Park club, attended by around 30 family members and friends.
It was an intimate and heartfelt gathering, thoughtfully organised by Carmen Crestani, Sidonio’s sister, who created a truly meaningful moment of connection and remembrance.
It was more than just a lunch as the occasion became a return to the club’s origins. Seated at the same table, Sergio and Sidonio took guests back to the early years of the Club Marconi, when it was sustained by enthusiasm, hard work and a strong sense of community.
Their bond, forged over time, was strengthened by shared sacrifices and a common vision.
Sergio, born on August 30, 1934, in San Marzano Uliveto (Asti), and Antonio, born on November 10, 1934, in Tortima (Vicenza), remain living custodians of the Marconi’s history and the values on which it was founded: friendship, solidarity and a deep sense of belonging.
It was a day marked by memories, smiles and gratitude—a reminder to everyone that the Club Marconi’s vibrant present is firmly rooted in real stories and in the courage and foresight of those who built something destined to endure.
