The initiative, called Collettivo Italiano, was presented on Rete Italia by its President Gianfranco De Vecchi, Director of Veneto Group, and Vice-President and Treasurer Marco Cimino, an architect. Both bring extensive international experience to the project.

“The Collettivo started as a group of friends and has grown into a structured organisation,” De Vecchi said. “The goal is to create synergies between professionals who share the same values, particularly around quality and Italian craftsmanship.”

More than a networking platform, the collective also focuses on mentorship and professional development.

“It’s not just about business,” Cimino added. “We want to create opportunities for growth, exchange and support, especially for those entering the industry in Australia.”

The founders acknowledge the challenges of operating in a competitive market. One key issue is communicating the true value of Made in Italy.

“It’s appreciated, but not always fully understood,” De Vecchi said. “It represents quality, design and processes that inevitably come at a cost.”

Competing with lower-cost markets means the challenge is as much cultural as it is commercial.

The broader economic environment also presents uncertainties. “We’ve seen very different phases recently,” Cimino noted. “From strong demand to a more cautious market, where clients are holding back.”

Despite this, opportunities remain for those able to stand out.

The Collettivo aims to act as a hub, connecting professionals and clients while supporting both established figures and newcomers. “We bring together those seeking expertise with those who can provide it,” De Vecchi said.

Looking ahead, the association is planning events and initiatives, including links with Italy. One of its first international engagements is expected to take place in Milan.

The message to Italians considering Australia is clear. “It’s a country full of opportunities,” Cimino said, “but you have to be ready to work hard.”

De Vecchi agrees: “Nothing is easy at the start, but with professionalism and commitment, real results follow.”
