The committee is the official representative body of Italians in NSW and comprises 12 members that are directly elected by Italian citizens.
Members are responsible for identifying and satisfying the social, cultural and civil needs of the Italian community in NSW.
COMITES members work together with consular officials, associations and authorities to: develop initiatives for young people, assist with social and educational matters, create opportunities for vocational training, devise recreational activities and to promote sport in the community.
The call for an election was formalised on September 3, which allows three months for running members to complete crucial formalities, such as collecting signatures and campaigning.
The current committee hopes to facilitate a wider electoral participation by including younger generations in the 2021 election process.
In order to participate in the COMITES elections, voter registration must be completed by November 3.
Voters must fill out the requisite form, which can be found here.
Voters must then send an email with the subject ‘2021 COMITES ELECTIONS – Voting option’.
The email should include the completed voting form and a copy of a valid form of ID which clearly shows the voter’s signature.
