Many Italian families have been affected by the natural disaster.

In a bid to help the Brisbane suburbs hit hardest by the floods, the Consul General of Italy in Queensland, Mr Rotelli, last week called a meeting with state authorities and representatives of the Italian community.

The group immediately formed a support committee for victims of the floods.

Mr Rotelli emphasised that the floods have affected many Italian families and destroyed years of hard work and sacrifice.

It’s necessary to provide tangible assistance to our affected countrymen immediately, even before government support arrives following investigations into the disaster.

The president and several members of the committee on Sunday morning visited the suburb of Windsor to assess the situation and prepare emergency assistance to the Italian families who have been hit hardest.

The committee launched an appeal for Italian victims of the floods, and acknowledged those who were first to donate.

Those who wish to donate can send their contributions to: Mr G. Marcuzzi, Alitalia, Edward Street, Brisbane.
