Statistically, the game was tight with both sides having 50 per cent possession and creating nine shots to eight in favour of Como.
Como took an early lead through Alberto Cerri, or so they had thought before VAR chalked off the goal for offside by a matter of inches.
Cerri went close again, getting a toe to Vignali’s cross but it hit the post.
Ascoli came out strong in the second half after a lackluster first.
They took the lead in the 69th minute thanks to a penalty given for Gomis collecting Dionisi but not the ball.
The striker made no mistake from the spot, going high and to his right while Gomis dived the wrong way.
Como was given a penalty of their own after an unlucky handball by Simic, whose foot deflected the ball into his own hand as he fell backwards.
Alberto Cerri, who had looked dangerous all game, let himself down with a weak effort that was too close to the keeper.
Como began piling on the pressure and hit the post again via a header.
The home team were spared any blushes in injury time as they were awarded another penalty for a handball, this time by Giuseppe Bellusci whose outstretched arms made contact with the ball.
Alberto Cerri stepped up again but this time beat Leali who still picked the right way.
Both teams will need maximum points and hope other results go their way for a path to the playoffs.
