Saturday, February 14 was a highly successful evening, marked by a double celebration: Valentine’s Day and the association’s 29th anniversary.
Secretary Salvatore (Sam) Di Lorenzo appeared visibly pleased with how the night unfolded. Di Lorenzo had the unenviable task of juggling his role as secretary and that of MC during the brief absence of the club’s president, Franco Sortino.
The latter arrived at 9 p.m., returning from his nephew’s 21st birthday.
“I’m very happy, not only because we have 160 people here tonight, but also because I’ve issued 25 new membership cards,” Di Lorenzo said. “It’s a record for our club!”
He attributes this significant increase in new members to several factors: Sortino’s excellent cooking (the president also serves as the tireless chef at many of these events) as well as a united and cohesive committee that works with professionalism, organisation and mutual respect.
He also acknowledged the ongoing support of the Licodia Eubea Social Club, which ensures the fair rotation of its function rooms to accommodate events organised by the Comunità Militellese.
Everything, Di Lorenzo was keen to stress, went “smoothly”, and he was able to fully enjoy the evening.
The association’s next event, following the AGM on February 15, is scheduled for March with the much-anticipated Feast of St Joseph.
Di Lorenzo shared that he is eagerly awaiting the occasion, recalling how, many years ago, “St Joseph would arrive on a donkey—something that unfortunately can’t be repeated nowadays.”
