A 74-year-old man died at the Newmarch House aged care facility in Caddens, near Penrith, on Thursday afternoon, Anglicare confirmed in a statement.

“This is a time of great grief for the family and we want to extend our deepest sympathies,” the statement said.

Three more residents at the facility tested positive for coronavirus on Thursday.

In total, 59 residents and staff have tested positive for the virus.

The announcement comes as NSW relaxes its social distancing restrictions to allow two adults and dependent children to visit another household.

Premier Gladys Berejiklian this morning urged people with even the mildest symptoms to get tested today, before the weekend’s expected flurry of activity once restrictions ease in the state.

So far, NSW has 3025 confirmed cases of coronavirus, including nine new cases overnight.

Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry Chant said three of the nine new cases are residents at the Newmarch House aged care home, four are community transmission cases and one is under investigation.

The state aims to test 8000 people each day.

“That is how we can control the spread and make sure the number of cases doesn’t become unmanageable as we go through the process of starting to ease restrictions,” Berejiklian said.

Heat maps are being rolled out across NSW showing clusters of coronavirus cases, aiming to inform residents about infection rates in their communities.

The maps will allow people to see the amount of active cases by postcode, including active cases, those who have recovered and the number of tests completed.
