After a few days with low rates of new infections, 49 cases have been linked to the outbreak at Cedar Meats Australia in Brooklyn.

The first case at the abattoir was identified on April 2, according to The Australian, but the facility remained open.

The department of health told the publication the worker in question had not been at work while infectious, so the workplace was not considered an exposure site.

The second case linked to the workplace was diagnosed on April 24 and it wasn’t until April 29 that the department took additional actions, including testing all staff.

Victoria recorded 17 new cases of coronavirus overnight, including four additional cases linked to the abattoir.

Two of the new cases have been linked to community transmission.

Seven are returned travellers in mandatory isolation and six remain under investigation.

No new deaths occurred and eight people are being treated in hospital, six of whom are in intensive care.
