The fast-moving deal that stunned the world of football was announced two days after the Portuguese soccer star told Italian giants Juventus he no longer wanted to play for the club.

“Welcome home, Cristiano,” Manchester United tweeted.

Within minutes, the club’s official website had crashed.

Ronaldo, 36, will join for a fee of €15 million ($24.2 million), with €8 million ($12.91 million) in add-ons.

The transfer is subject to agreement of personal terms, a visa and a medical examination, according to a club statement.

On Thursday, Ronaldo met with Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri and told him he wanted to leave the club where he had spent the past three years after joining from Madrid.

He had one year left on his contract.

By Friday, Ronaldo was boarding a private jet from Turin to Lisbon, in his native Portugal, and saying his next move would soon be announced.

“Everyone at the club looks forward to welcoming Cristiano back to Manchester,” the statement read.

Ronaldo soon took to Instagram, saying he gave his “heart and soul for Juventus”.

“I’ll always love the city of Turin until my final days,” he wrote.

“In the end we can all look back and realise that we achieved great things, not all that we wanted, but still, we wrote a pretty beautiful story together.”

Ronaldo, a five-time Ballon d’Or winner, has so far won over 30 major trophies during his career, including five UEFA Champions League titles, four FIFA Club World Cups, seven league titles in England, Spain and Italy, and the European Championship for his native Portugal.

In his first spell for Manchester United, he scored 118 goals in 292 games.
