Manara, from South Tyrol, has designed the sets and costumes for Mozart’s Così Fan Tutte running at the Teatro Pergolesi in the central Marche town of Jesi from October 20 to 22.
The Pergolesi said, “Manara’s contemporary mark, playful, colourful and licentious, is perfect for this new edition of Mozart’s masterpiece which mingles comedy and tragedy, melancholy and eroticism, philosophy and a maze of passions”.
Manara said “if there is an opera which lends itself to a wholly painted set design is it this one”.
“I’ve drawn an exceptional series of illustrations of the metamorphoses of Zeus, including nymphs, satyrs, disguises and courtships marked by an elegant, enigmatic, timeless sensuality.”
