Police executed a warrant issued by Naples prosecutors to search the Rome homes and offices of Profumo and D'Alema in relation to the case, the sources said.

They also searched premises linked to Giuseppe Giordo, a former executive for shipbuilder Fincantieri, and D'Alema's accountant Gherardo Gardo.

The deals being probed, including the sale of M346 fighter jets, are worth a total of over four billion euros, the sources added.

In total eight people are under investigation for alleged aggravated international corruption.
