Rafael Leao put Milan in front within three minutes as he slalomed his way past one defender, skipped over a tackle from another and fired into the far side of the net.

It was Leao’s third goal in four matches, after netting in successive Europa League games against Rennes, but his first Serie A goal since September.

Teun Koopmeiners levelled from the spot for the visitors shortly before halftime, after Olivier Giroud had been penalised for a high tackle on Emil Holm.

Milan are third on the table, 13 points behind Inter who have a game in hand. Atalanta sit in fifth, two points behind fourth-placed Bologna who have played one more game.
