Today he works at Deluxe Dry Cleaning on Barkly Street in West Footscray, a family business founded by his father Nick around 30 years ago.

“After I graduated from university as a chemical engineer I told my parents that I wanted to come into the family business,” Aaron said.

“They were pretty horrified! They hoped that I’d graduate and be able to go to work in an air-conditioned office and not have to work at the dry cleaner’s.

“But I chose to do it.”

Aaron has since made his mark on the business, projecting it towards the future: in February 2019, he created iBAG, an easy-to-use app available on the App Store and Google Play, where customers can register by entering their pick-up address in order to check if they are within the service area of Deluxe Dry Cleaning and partnering companies.

Eligible clients can place their order on the app and their clothes will be collected by a staff member and then returned fresh and clean usually within 48 hours.

“Before the COVID-19 crisis, we had many customers in the CBD and contracts with companies that encouraged employees to cycle or catch public transport to offices that offer a gym service and have lockers for employees to keep their clothes in,” Aaron said.

“We’d always planned to do home pick-up and delivery but COVID-19 forced our hand about offering that a bit sooner.”

Since March, the pace of work has slowed down by about 80 per cent, but fortunately iBAG has managed to expand nationally in less than two years, through collaborations with local companies that are able to operate in other states with little to no government restrictions.

“We’re proud to be the only dry cleaning company to have built its own software and expanded it to a national reach, and this sets us apart from the competition,” Aaron said.

The next step for the company will be to install lockers in apartment buildings where customers can leave their clothes to be cleaned and returned to the same place.

“Health measures have always been respected in our company, but with a pandemic underway, we want to do even more,” Aaron concluded.
