“In two months, this government met the 30 missing targets for the third instalment of the NRRP and sent them together with the 20 targets met previously to the EU Commission,” Fitto told the Lower House.
“The discussion with Brussels will be concluded in the coming hours, I hope positively,” he said, adding that the “phase of confrontation” with the Commission’s service “did not indicate any delays”.
“The third instalment was requested by Spain, Greece and Italy,” concluded Fitto.
To date Italy has received nearly 67 billion euros in funding from the EU, mostly in the form of loans in order to support ecological transition and technological innovation.
The country is waiting to receive the third instalment of funding worth 19 billion euros amid claims the project has got bogged down in delays and uncertainty.
Payments are made by the EU on condition that agreed targets have been met.
The final deadline for completing the project is in 2026.
