Following last year’s record-breaking season in which over 40,000 people flocked to Bridges Reserve, this year marks the seventh edition of one of Melbourne’s favourite family events.

Established in 2010, the market has a long history of boasting some of the best flavours, sounds and handicrafts that local chefs, musicians and artisans have to offer, and this year has been no exception.

Hosting over 30 food stalls including local Italian sandwich store, PANINOTECA S.p.A, and Abruzzese-inspired grill pop-up restaurant, L’Arrosticino (Stick on Grill), the market puts on a truly international feast and demands a visit on an empty belly.

The soft grass becomes a popular destination, as visitors devour their purchases while enjoying the versatile rhythms carried across the air from the stage and roaming musicians.

If you missed the likes of unique Melbourne act Papa Chango in week one, or famous Psych-Latin outfit San Lazaro in week three, there’s no cause for alarm.

There’s still a chance to catch some top acts this Friday, on this season’s closing night, including crowd favourite La Voce Della Luna.

Founded in 1996 by ARIA award-winning musician Kavisha Mazzella, La Voce Della Luna is a Melbourne-based intergenerational choir of Italo-Australian women whose voices combined make a powerful statement.

This lively group of around 50 women are famous for their renditions of popular Italian numbers and traditional folk songs spanning from the 16th century to more recent times.

Some showstoppers performed by the choir include the Italian partisan song ‘Bella Ciao’, sung by the anti-fascist resistance movement during WWII, ‘Va Pensiero’ from the 1842 opera Nabucco, and winner of the 1952 Sanremo Festival, ‘Vola Colomba’.

Head over this Friday, grab a bite (or three) to eat, and settle in for an evening of energetic Italian song.
