Born on February 3, 1936, in Crespano del Grappa, in the province of Treviso, Bortolazzo officially celebrated his 90th birthday last Saturday in the Michelini Room at the Bossley Park club—a venue that stands as a symbol of the history and identity of Sydney’s Italian community.
Around 70 family members and friends gathered to honour a man who represents a living piece of the club’s story.
The evening was thoughtfully organised by Bortolazzo’s partner, Zoila Torres, who created an elegant, warm and affectionate atmosphere.
Guests were entertained by accordionist Julie, accompanied by singer and musician Joe Zappia, whose music added to the festive mood. The menu was widely praised, as was the impeccable service provided by the Michelini Room staff.
By Bortolazzo’s side was his large and loving family. His sons John and Albert were joined by their wives Sandra and Amanda respectively.
Meanwhile, his four grandchildren (Amy, Luke, Adam and Mark) and five great-grandchildren (Vittoria, Savanna, André, Lucy and Leonardo) were also there.
His niece Caterina Bortolazzo, who travelled especially from Italy to share in the special occasion, completed the family affair.
Elido Bortolazzo’s 90th birthday celebration was more than a party, it was a heartfelt tribute to a life deeply intertwined with the history of Club Marconi and the broader story of Italian migration to Australia—the story of a founder, a community man and a valued witness to a collective journey that continues to this day.
