The study revealed that while creative trends in funeral services were popular with younger clients, the Italian community still preferred to conduct services rooted in tradition.
Creative new trends for celebrating a person’s life included scattering their ashes with the help of fireworks.
The funeral homes that took part in conducting the survey included: Andrew Kennedy Funerals, Olsens Funerals, Walter Carter Funerals and Kelly Family Funerals.
The interviews showed that the majority of participants under 50 years of age preferred to streamline formal practices such as vigils, and found an overall decline in elaborate funeral services.
In contrast, the majority of Italo-Australians interviewed confirmed that they wished to host traditional funerals, regardless of how many years they had spent in Australia.
