There has recently been a major furore after Ferragni was fined by the Antitrust authority over sales of a “designer” version of the popular Italian Christmas cake, pandoro.

The competition watchdog said Ferragni and Italian confectionery company Balocco had led customers to understand that, by purchasing the ‘designer’ pandoro, they would have contributed to a donation to the hospital.

The donation of 50,000 euro had, instead, already been made by Balocco on its own months earlier.

The authority issued fines of over one million euros to companies linked to the 36-year-old influencer and 420,000 euros to Balocco.

Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni blasted Ferragni over the case, without directly saying her name, during a speech on Sunday.

“I have always been convinced that those who are more fortunate have a moral responsibility to do good,” Ferragni said in a video posted on social media on Monday.

“These are the values that have always driven me and my family.

“This is what we teach our children.

“We also teach them that one can make mistakes, and that when that happens, one must admit it, and if possible, make up for the mistake and treasure it.

“And that is what I want to do now - apologise and make a concrete gesture.

“I will donate one million euros to the Regina Margherita hospital to support children’s treatment.”
