“I’m delighted to share that Ferragosto will be returning in August this year,” Deputy Mayor of Canada Bay Stephanie Di Pasqua said.

“This year’s event is extra special as we celebrate Ferragosto’s 25th anniversary and return to its traditional format as an outdoor celebration along Great North Road.”

Though the festival is located in the same place as it was pre-Covid, attendees should expect changes to the traditional format, in order to keep the event as COVID-19 safe as possible.

Ferragosto celebrates the culture and customs of the Bel Paese and unites the Italo-Australian community.

Italian flags are flown proudly high, as the Canada Bay area is home to the highest number of Aeolian Island expatriates overseas.

The 2022 Ferragosto festival will present the “best of Italian food, culture and entertainment” as the council welcomes applications from retailers, artists, Italian and local performers.

In past years, the festival has generated record-breaking numbers of visitors.

In 2018, 110,000 visitors attended, while in 2019, around 120,000 visitors took part in the festival.

It is hoped that the relaxed restrictions, the outdoor setting and the desire to connect with European cultures will generate another large turnout for this year’s Ferragosto.
