Giovanni Ferrero, the 58-year-old head of the Italian Nutella group, whose headquarters are in Alba, has overtaken Facebook creator Mark Zuckerberg’s wealth.

According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, which compiles the daily ranking of the richest people in the world, Ferrero is now in 25th place, valued at 38.9 billion dollars; Zuckerberg having to be content (so to speak) close behind him, valued at 38.2.

The reason for the overtaking is twofold: not only is the Ferrero group currently going strong, but the technology sector has been trending downward for the past year, eroding the ranking positions of its protagonists.

In the case of Facebook, there is also a peculiar element: Mark Zuckerberg has made a bet on the Metaverse that has so far not turned out to be a winner. Thus, in the last twelve months the shares of Meta (the company's new name) have lost 69.34 per cent.

Zuckerberg, however, is not alone: overall, the kingpins of technology have lost 480 billion dollars over the last year due to the fall of the stock exchanges.

Now that Zuckerberg is 28th in the Bloomberg index, the Meta boss has not only been overtaken by Ferrero, but by brothers Alain and Gerard Wertheimer, the owners of the company that produces Chanel’s iconic perfumes, who are now ranked in positions 26 and 27 respectively on the list.
