Riccardo Sottil put La Viola ahead in under 17 minutes with a low shot from outside the box that curled into the far post.
Lucas Martinez doubled Fiorentina’s lead shortly after the break when he headed in Arthur Melo’s inviting cross.
Kristian Thorstvedt got one back for Sassuolo when he rifled his shot into the back of the net from close range.
Nicolas Gonzalez made it 3-1 in the 58th minute with a header from inside the six-yard box.
Antonin Barak scored Fiorentina’s fourth four minutes later after a clever little reverse pass from Sottil put him through on goal.
It was then Barak who turned provider for Gonzalez who scored his brace in the 66th minute, side footing the ball into the bottom-left corner.
Fiorentina are eighth on the table as Sassuolo sit 19th, five points from safety.
