The yacht is currently located at a depth of 49 metres underwater off the coast of Porticello.

Its tank is believed to be holding around 18,000 litres of fuel.

The priority would be to empty the tank to prevent the fuel from polluting the water and subsequently secure the boat to retrieve it, sources briefed on the plan said.

Once the tank is emptied, the firm is set to present authorities with a detailed plan for the wreckage’s retrieval, in order to obtain a permit to do so.

The operation could require several weeks.

Camper & Nicholsons is in contact with Italian authorities to carry out the operation, the sources said.

The company has specified that it has a “yacht management” role and that it is not listed as ship owner.

The Bayesian officially belongs to Revton Ltd, a company based on the Isle of Man owned by Angela Barcares, the wife of British magnate Mike Lynch.

Lynch died in the shipwreck along with six others, including his 18-year-old daughter Hannah.
