The four are volunteers from international NGOs, with one of them having a Palestinian wife.

In recent weeks they had been located at the UNRWA refugee agency base in Rafah, and have now crossed into Egypt.

The small group has been assisted by staff from the Italian Embassy in Cairo.

“I am happy to confirm that a first group of Italians who had intended to leave Gaza has left the Strip,” said Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani.

Meanwhile, Italy may set up a field hospital in Gaza, Defence Minister Guido Crosetto said Tuesday.

“Another Italian Air Force C-130 has landed at the airport of Al Arish with the second tranche of humanitarian aid for Gaza, and we are proceeding to unload the material,” he said on X.

“In the meantime, we are organising the possibility of taking a field hospital into Gaza.”
