His assurance came after the government agreed a series of changes with the EU to get the massive programme back on track.
Earlier on Tuesday Bari Mayor Antonio Decaro, the head of Italy’s association of local councils, told La7 television that 13 billion euros of the 16 billion the municipalities were due to get “have been taken away”.
Fitto denied this as he reported to the Lower House on the changes to the plan to make the Italian economy greener and more modern via projects funded with the help of around 191 billion euros in EU grants and low-interest loans.
“The interventions foreseen within the NRRP will go ahead as planned,” Fitto said.
“This is no interruption with respect to everything that is planned.
“The government is guaranteeing funding for all the interventions.
“I say that to the mayors, to those who imagined catastrophic scenarios.”
The government rejigged the plan to overcome a series of delays that led to fears many of the NRRP projects and related reform milestones would not be completed on time, and Italy would miss out on much of the available cash.
The changes enabled the European Commission last week to approve the long-delayed third tranche of the NRRP funding worth 18.5 billion euros.
