The Italians dominated possession and created a whopping 20 shots on goal to the visitors’ four.
Atalanta hit the lead in under 12 minutes when Mateo Retegui tapped in a cutback from Davide Zappacosta after the Austrians turned the ball over cheaply just outside their own box.
The lead wasn’t doubled until the 58th minute when Mario Pasalic scored from close range after some excellent work out wide by Juan Cuadrado to provide the assist.

Charles De Ketelaere, who had a goal disallowed by VAR for offside in the 49th minute, made it 3-0 with a toe poke from seven yards out following a corner in the 63rd.
Another VAR intervention, again for offside, denied Zappacosta. But Atalanta weren’t to be denied a fourth as the always dangerous Ademola Lookman headed in De Ketelaere’s cross from point blank range in the 90th minute.
In the fourth minute of stoppage time, Marco Brescianini completed the route with a clean finish after somehow getting past three defenders with a clumsy turn in the box.
Atalanta sit fourth on the table heading into the last game of the round where they will travel to the Nou Camp to take on an in-form Barcelona. A win is vital to securing a place in the last 16, but a point may be enough if other results go their way.
