In honour of this important event in Italian history, the Fogolar Furlan Club, in Thornbury, will host the Rassegna dei Cori, or the Showcase of the Italian Choirs of Melbourne, on Sunday, May 26.
The free event kicks off ‘Italian Week’, celebrating the formation of the Italian Republic.
Many Italians have settled in Melbourne over the decades, bringing with them food, culture and music.
This event will allow guests to experience all six Italian choirs of Melbourne.
Participants can enjoy the musical flavours of different Italian regions and the contributions Italians have made to world music.
The event will begin with a performance by an icon of Italian music since 1971: La Banda Musicale “Vincenzo Bellini”.
Other choirs to perform on the day include: the Gruppo Culturale Italiano; the Coro Furlan; La Voce Della Luna; the Veneto Coro; the Coro Casa D’Abruzzo; and Sicilia Bella.
All groups will sing the Australian and Italian national anthems and Va Pensiero.
Enjoy lunch at the club from 11:00 am, before the event begins at 1:00 pm.
