Marcello Minenna, the former director of Italy’s customs agency, and Gianluca Pini, a former MP for Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini’s League party, were arrested in relation to a corruption probe on Thursday, sources said.

The investigation by prosecutors in Forlì regards, among other things, the communication between the officials and the supplier of facemasks for the Usl Romagna health authority during the COVID-19 pandemic, the sources added.
Several civil servants were also arrested and restrictive measures were imposed on a total of 34 people.
Minenna, 52, is also a former Rome city councillor and had been part of the Calabria regional executive since January.
