In an exciting new development in his career, the 21-year-old was flown to Italy following wrap-up of the National Premier Leagues season played with Manly United FC.
In an interview with FTBL Australia, Alessi said that although the Serie D is not fully professional, it was a great option for him “because I knew I would get game time and Sasso needed another central defender”.
Alessi made his debut for the Western Sydney Wanderers in 2013 at the young age of 16.
He impressed the coach Tony Popovic and in May 2014, he signed a professional contract until release at the end of the 2015–16 season.
Following his stint with the Wanderers, Alessi signed a two-year deal with the Newcastle Jets, but tragically tore his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL, in the knee) during pre-season training.
Alessi’s injury prevented him from playing with the Jets and he was released in 2018.
He was signed post-injury to Manly United for the 2018 season as a traditional centre back and fullback, after which he transferred to Italy.
Alessi has been described by his former Manly United coach as “a composed defender with good technique who reads the game well”.
The 21-year-old has ambitions to make it to Serie C next year, an ambition that seems likely given the competitive level at which he is playing.
Alessi’s grandparents were born in Italy and he has an Italian passport.
He is staying with his family near Modena.
