The Eternal City’s ranking was revealed when market research provider Euromonitor International presented its highly anticipated Top 100 City Destinations Ranking at the World Travel Market event in London.
The capital is one of four Italian cities which made the top 100, including Milan in 27th position, followed by the canal city of Venice in 38th and the Tuscan capital of Florence in 44th.
Hong Kong took out the top spot, with 26.5 million visitors in 2016, followed by Bangkok and London.
Singapore, Paris, Macau, Dubai, Istanbul, New York City and Kuala Lumpur rounded out the top 10.
