The Ministry has decided to allocate the total sum of 65 million lire to the initiative, all of which will be used to purchase the economy tickets with Alitalia.
To take part in the initiative, you must be an Italian citizen and meet the following requisites:
- Be aged 50 or over
- Have been in Australia for more than 15 years
- Have proof of economic hardship
- Have proof of not having returned to Italy since migrating to Australia, or not having returned in at least 10 years.
The tickets will be completely free and will get passengers from Australia to airports in Rome or Milan.
The Italian government will fund domestic travel within Australia to the airport of departure and upon return.
However, the Italian government won’t assume any responsibility for domestic travel within Italy between arrivals and departures.
Australian residents who are eligible for the free tickets are invited to apply at their local CO.AS.IT. branch.
Candidates must be available to depart for Italy by no later than December 31, 1979.
Application forms will be available at CO.AS.IT. branches from Thursday, August 23.
