The duo were detained on Wednesday after travelling to the African nation for a report on alleged bribes paid by Italian energy giant Eni in Nigeria.
They were taken from their hotel by members of the Congolese security services after interviewing an Italian businessman, and their telephones, SIM cards, computers and cameras were confiscated.
Local authorities justified the occurrence by stating that the reporters were not carrying journalism visas.
The foreign ministry had not released information on the detainment of the reporters in an attempt to assist diplomatic efforts in securing their release.
