Fresh police ‘blitz’ in Naples

Italian police on Wednesday staged a fresh interforce ‘blitz’ in Naples amid a clampdown on the local Camorra mafia following a youth crime wave in nearby Caivano.

Some 330 officers form various forces were deployed in the sweep, which uncovered three new drug pushing piazzas in the historic centre and arrested one man, while making dozens of raids on alleged mobsters’ homes.

The operation was part of a continuing ‘high impact’ mission of the State Police, Carabinieri and Guardia di Finanza spurred by the crimes at Caivano.

The areas concerned Wednesday were those of the Naples’ Centro Storico, in particular the San Lorenzo and Vicaria neighbourhoods.
