At the start of the round they were four points clear of Genoa who dropped points against Como, giving Frosinone a six-point lead thanks to this win.
Ascoli started strong and signalled their intent with a long range effort from Buchel that went just wide.
The next chance fell to Frosinone, but Bidaoui’s curling effort also went wide.
Frosinone’s Mulattieri received the ball in the box with his back to goal before snatching at it on the turn and blasting it high.
The breakthrough came four minutes before the break when Lucioni got on the end of a well-delivered corner by Roberto Insigne, heading the ball into an empty net after the keeper came out for the cross but missed it.
Frosinone’s second goal was similar, except this time the cross came from open play.
Mazitelli whipped in another tempting ball that Leali thought he could deal with, but by the time he realised he couldn’t it was too late and Mulattieri headed the ball into an empty net.
The rest of the half consisted of Frosinone constantly peppering Ascoli’s goal, but they were unable to get the third that their dominance deserved.
While Frosinone are two games clear of Genoa, they are behind on head-to-head after Genoa beat them 1-0 in December.
This means that if Genoa can claw back three points, their second match on May 13 could be the promotion decider.
