The group of 80 Palestinians included 17 minors who will receive treatment in Italy.
Adam, who risks losing the use of an arm because of his injuries, came with his mother, who is also a doctor, and some other family members.
He will be treated at the Niguarda children’s hospital in Milan.
“Thank you very much, I have no words,” said Adam’s mother, paediatrician Alaa al-Najjar, at Milan’s Linate airport, where she was greeted by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani.
“It is an enormous pleasure to be here in Italy.”
“Welcome to Italy, we are happy to have you here,” Tajani replied.
After speaking to the families, Tajani said they had expressed the desire to stay in Italy long term.
“Unfortunately, wars cause these disasters,” Tajani said.
“I saw the horror of war in the eyes of the mothers and children.
“They said to us, ‘I don’t want to go back to Gaza, can we stay in Italy?’
“I am happy that these children can find some serenity together with their families here in our country.”
