The home side had 70 per cent possession and created six chances to Genoa’s seven. Genoa only managed to get one of those seven on target but fortunately for them, it went in.

Junior Messias went close for the visitors in the 18th minute, but his shot from outside the box flew just wide.

Monza thought they took the lead in the 3rd minute of first half added time, but Maldini’s header into an empty net was ruled out for offside.

Four minutes later, Genoa took the lead with an Andrea Pinamonti glancing header from a Stefano Sabelli cross.

Both sides had opportunities in the second half, but the score was to remain 1-0.
