The result made no difference to where the teams finished on the table.

Genoa were ahead inside 12 minutes when Massimo Coda held the ball up on the edge of the box before teeing up Stefano Sabelli who smashed it into the top-left corner before choosing not to celebrate in front of his former club.

Bari equalised eight minutes later thanks to a brilliant freekick from Sebastiano Esposito, who used the inside of his foot to get it up and over the wall.

Genoa took the lead again in the 34th minute when Albert Gudmundsson got ahead of his defender and shot quickly on the turn from a tight angle, sending the ball into the roof of the net.

The visitors would draw level once again, this time in the 68th minute thanks to a long-range wonder strike off two steps by Leonardo Benedetti.

Seven minutes later saw Genoa take the lead for the third time when Caleb Ekuban also beat the keeper from distance with a curling effort.

Bari refused to lay down and in the 86th minute made it 3-3 with yet another outside the box finish, this time by Walid Cheddira who curled the ball into the far post.

The visitors’ hearts were broken in the 95th minute, when a penalty was given for a pulled shirt in the box.

Domenico Criscito calmly sent the keeper the wrong way off two steps to make it 4-3 in what will remain a memorable match for a long time.
