The home side only managed to create five scoring opportunities all game, compared to Genoa’s 13.
It was Cittadella who had the first real shot of the game though, but Ambrosino’s low shot was straight art Marinez.
Cittadella were almost gifted a goal by some slack defensive passing that led to a turnover and a shot on goal by Ambrosino again, this time requiring a fingertip save from Martinez to keep the game scoreless.
Cittadella’s Federico Giraudo was given a second yellow card three minutes before the break for a cynical challenge on Perticone who was running through on goal.
Genoa started the second half brightly, with Massimo Coda hitting the crossbar from close range.
Ten-man Cittadella couldn’t hold out, and in the 71st minute Gudmundsson was put through on goal thanks to a one-two with Coda before slotting the ball through Kastrati’s legs.
Genoa are now four points behind Frosinone in their quest for the championship, six points above Bari in third who will be wanting Genoa’s automatic promotion spot.
Cittadella are in the relegation playoff zone, one point from outright safety.
