The home team had 61 per cent possession and created eight chances to Genoa’s nine.

Verona took the lead in under eight minutes when Federico Bonazzoli got on the end of Darko Lazovic’s chip through ball. Bonazzoli used his first touch to push the ball to the side of the oncoming goalkeeper and his second to put it into an empty net.

Caleb Ekuban made it 1-1 just before the break when a Verona defender mishit a clearance directly into his path, just yard out from goal.

Albert Gudmundsson scored Genoa’s second goal in the 58th minute when Verona keeper Lorenzo Montipo parried a Johan Vasquez’s shot directly to him, allowing for the easiest of finishes.

Verona are 17th on the table, just one point above the drop zone. Genoa are 12th, comfortable midtable.
