Campania Governor Vincenzo De Luca and Emilia-Romagna Governor Stefano Bonaccini both lambasting the plan.

“We are facing a real counter-Reformation that goes against the unity of Italy and betrays the south,” said De Luca, announcing he will hold a press conference on Thursday to launch a campaign against the bill.

“It splits Italy and is a real political fraud,” he added, arguing citizens who are already penalised by the north-south divide will be made even worse off in terms of public services.

“The autonomy reform makes you laugh, if not cry, because it does not provide the funding needed to implement it,” Bonaccini told La7 television.

“It is a bluff.

“They (the League) need a scalp in exchange for [agreeing to support the government’s] prime ministership reform, knowing full well that it’s unpalatable because it does not provide for the essential levels of service needed to be approved in parliament.”
