Under the eased restrictions, Victorians will be allowed to have indoor gatherings of up to 20 people, while gyms and beauty salons will be able to reopen provided they adhere to social distancing rules.

It comes as NSW also announced that regional travel and the reopening of beauty salons would be allowed from the same date.

Here’s a rundown of what Victorians will be able to do from June 1:

Social gatherings

Up to 20 people will be allowed to gather indoors from June 1.

If it’s at a house, that number must include the members of the household, and children and babies count towards the total of 20.

Gatherings outside, such as picnics, will be able to include up to 20 people as well.

People must still practise social distancing, no matter the context.

Cafes and restaurants

From June 1, up to 20 people will be allowed to sit inside an enclosed cafe or restaurant so long as social distancing requirements are adhered to.

Tables should be at least 1.5 metres apart, and customers will be asked to provide their first name and phone number should it be needed for contact tracing.

This applies to restaurants and cafes that offer table service for food.

It includes standalone cafes and restaurants, restaurants and bistros within a pub, bar, registered and licensed club, RSL and community club or hotel, and fast food outlets, cafeterias and canteens.

The customer limit will change again on June 22, when up to 50 people will be permitted.

A further increase of up to 100 patrons per enclosed space is planned for the end of July.

Alcohol will only be served with meals.

Nightclubs are still off the cards.

Sport and recreation

Up to 20 people will be able to play sport together outside from June 1, so long as it is recreational and not competitive.

The same number of people will be allowed at public playgrounds, outdoor gyms and skate parks.

Indoor and outdoor swimming pools will be allowed to reopen with a maximum of 20 patrons per separate enclosed space and a limit of three swimmers per lane in each pool.

From June 22, indoor sports centres and venues will be able to reopen with up to 20 people allowed per separate enclosed space, subject to the four square metre rule.

A maximum of 10 people per group or activity will apply.

Gyms, fitness centres and health clubs will  be allowed to reopen with a maximum of 20 people, while the ski season will also go ahead from June 22.

Travel and holidays

Travel to holiday homes and other private residences within Victoria will be allowed from June 1.

That extends to campgrounds and caravan parks, where people will be able to pitch a tent and camp overnight once again.

But don’t expect communal facilities like kitchens or bathrooms to be available; they’ll remain closed to reduce the transmission risk presented by shared spaces.

Victorians will also be allowed to stay overnight at the homes of friends and family from June 1.

Work and school

Victorians are still urged to work from home where possible.

“Working from home is very, very important,” Andrews said.

“In fact, it is critical.

“If we have literally hundreds and hundreds of thousands of people returning to office blocks, pressing lift buttons, sharing the kitchen, using common spaces, bathrooms and other spaces like that, then we will simply have this virus get away from us.”

Primary and secondary students will begin a staged return to classrooms from today.

Students in Prep – Grade 2, Year 11 and 12, and all students in specialist schools, will return to school on Tuesday.

Students in Grade 3 – Year 10 will continue to learn from home, and will return to face-to-face learning on Tuesday, June 9.

University and TAFE students should continue to learn remotely.

Childcare and kindergartens may remain open if they wish.

Arts, culture an entertainment

From June 1, art galleries, museums, and other cultural sites will be allowed to reopen to up to 20 people at a time.

The same applies to outdoor amusement parks, zoos and arcades.

If all goes according to plan, on June 22 that limit will be raised to 50 people, with cinemas and theatres finally able to reopen their doors.

Libraries, youth centres, and community clubs will be able to reopen from June 1, with no more than 20 people inside at a time.

The limit on the number of people allowed at house inspections and auctions will also rise from 10 to 20, with real estate agents required to keep track of the number of attendees and their contact details.

Religious ceremonies

The limit on funeral attendees has been tough, which may be why it’s being relaxed fastest, with up to with up to 50 mourners allowed at funerals from June 1.

For weddings, up to 20 people will be allowed, plus the celebrant and couple.

The same limit of 20 people will apply to “private worship or small religious ceremonies”, in addition to those required to perform the service.
