The voice of the Italo-Australian community will be heard from September 1, thanks to IL GLOBO TV’s new programming dedicated to the September 25 Italian general election, which will also include interviews and debates between Australian candidates representing our electoral college of Africa, Asia, Oceania and Antarctica (AAOA).

The first instalment, however, will be dedicated to our community - its needs, problems and the most controversial issues at the centre of the election campaign.

It will cover themes ranging from the way in which Italian elections are experienced and perceived by the so-called 'second generation' - Italian citizens born in Australia who have always been the least involved in Italian electoral appointments - to the concerns of Italian companies and their expectations regarding representation.

The debate will focus on the theme of participation, the role of parliamentarians and the tools at their disposal that could be effective in making the needs of our community heard in the Italian political halls. The concerns of those who live in Australia will also be discussed. Those of us who look to our representatives to address important issues through their political agenda such as assistance for new migrants, the diffusion of the Italian language and culture, the age-old problem of citizenship re-acquisition, and the development of closer bilateral relations between Italy and Australia.

Guests on the program, hosted by Riccardo Schirru and Luca M. Esposito, will be Marisa Spiller, an Australian-born teacher and tourist operator, Silvano Merlatti, the chairman of Fila Australia and founder of the Einaudi Club, and Marco Fedi, former MP and the CEO of Co.As.It.
