“Our New Year’s resolution this year was simple: travel to Italy,” the board said in an online statement.
“So let’s hope that international travel is not too far off.”
This year marks the 700th anniversary since Dante Alighieri’s death, and the Italian National Tourist Board in Australia will pay tribute to the Florentine poet with a rich program of “commemorative events” to unfold during the year.
In the meantime, the board is promoting a travel idea for when borders reopen: ‘Le vie di Dante’ (Roads of Dante), a route that includes 21 legs over approximately 395 kilometres, from Dante’s birthplace in Florence to his tomb in Ravenna.
The exciting tour crosses the Apennine Mountains and immerses participants in silent woods and historic villages, waterfalls and medieval castles.
