His comments came after a meeting with the leader of the city’s Jewish community, Daniele De Paz, at the Bologna synagogue on Tuesday.

“The Pope’s appeal on the ceasefire is very clear,” he added in relation to the call by Francis for Israel and Hamas to cease hostilities in the war sparked by the October 7 Hamas attack on Israel.
Likewise, Zuppi said the pope’s appeal “for the release of hostages” taken by Hamas “is very clear”.
“And so, it is all the more necessary to be very firm in the face of such strong violence”, and to have “great firmness to defeat it,” he continued after the meeting in which the religious took a firm stance against the anti-Semitism that is spreading in Italy and in Europe.
