This year’s ‘Power List’ of Italian Cinema is here, produced by popular Italian film magazine Ciak alongside bi-weekly publication Box Office- a yearly tradition released ahead of the opening of the Venice Film Festival.

The recognized top 50 trailblazers of the Italian film industry are divided between talent and professionals.

Topping the list of the talent division is Paolo Sorrentino: on the wings of the worldwide success of È stata la mano di Dio (The Hand of God), which received multiple awards at Venice, the Nastri D'argento Awards, and was nominated for an Oscar.

In second place is actor Pierfrancesco Favino, and in third, Turkish-Italian director/screenwriter Ferzan Özpetek. In fourth and fifth place two more directors have been recognised, Marco Bellocchio and Mario Martone.

This year, the first place in the professional ranking has been awarded to Rai Cinema's CEO Paolo Del Brocco, confirming his position at the top following the strength of 160 films produced by Rai Cinema, as well as 15 David di Donatello award wins.

In second place is Massimiliano Orfei of Vision Distribution, a company that has demonstrated its ability to operate with confidence, making their mark amid a very difficult season and distributing 21 films with a total box office earning of 10.4 million euro.

In third place is Nicola Maccanico, Cinecittà's CEO, who in his first year at the helm of the public company has accelerated its modernisation, making the most of the 300 million euro invested by Pnrr and increasing the studios' international appeal.

Fourth is Alessandro Araimo, appointed General Manager in Italy, Spain and Portugal of Warner Bros. Fifth, Italy’s Minister of Culture Dario Franceschini, whose guarantee of economic support for the industry into the second year of covid has been gratefully noted.
