The Italians took the lead in the 19th minute when Alexis Sanchez met Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s ball into the box at the back post before finishing tidily.

Salzburg equalised 12 minutes after halftime when Oscar Gloukh blasted in his shot from the edge of the box.

Inter restored their lead seven minutes later when Hakan Calhanoglu scored a penalty awarded for a rough challenge on Davide Frattesi.

The win takes Inter to second, level on points with first-placed Real Sociedad.
