On Saturday, 76-year-old Anne Faye became the 14th resident at Anglicare’s Newmarch House in Caddens, near Penrith, to die from the virus.

There have been 63 known infections at the facility, including 26 staff and 37 residents.

NSW Health pathology labs were conducting “forensic detective work” on serology and genomic sequencing to try and establish how a female worker at Newmarch House got infected.

She worked a total of six shifts, showing mild symptoms, before she tested positive.

In the weeks that followed, family members of residents have expressed concerns over the outbreak and have grown impatient with the operators of Newmarch House, citing a lack of communication.

Daily testing of staff will begin today at the facility to help stop infection rates from rising.

The daily testing will see staff checked for the virus at the beginning of their shifts in new safety measures announced by NSW Heath Minister Brad Hazzard.

In addition, an infectious disease expert is now on site to assist staff with the correct use of Personal Protective Equipment.

Anglicare Sydney has also launched a support program for families desperate to keep their relatives safe.
