Meloni, 46, is on her summer holiday in the region in the ‘heel’ of Italy’s ‘boot’.
“Puglia is an extraordinary region, an Italian pearl, where culture and history blend with the beauty of nature, among centuries-old olive trees and breathtaking beaches,” Meloni said.
“Not to mention the excellence of its food and wine, which tell of a culinary tradition that can only be succumbed to,” she added.
“Once again this year I have decided to spend a few days here with my family in August to recharge my batteries, in the run-up to what will be a very busy and important autumn for Italy,” the premier said in relation to the many political issues waiting to be tackled, including the opposition-backed minimum wage, budget law, ratification of the treaty for the new European Stability Mechanism (ESM) bailout fund and justice reform, among other things.
“However, I will be back soon,” she concluded, recalling that Puglia is the region chosen by the government to host the G7 summit in 2024 after this year’s meeting hosted by Japan.
